Kurzbeschreibung
Launched in 2017 by the Institute of Archaeology and Classical Studies, the Collart-Palmyre project aims to digitize the entirety of Paul Collart’s archives relating to the Baalshamîn sanctuary (many thousands of documents: photos, forms, notes, letters, notebooks, plans, etc.).
Beschreibung
The permanent conservation of these information in digital form accessible to all interested scholars is a vital step to the preservation of the memory of the site. It will allow future generations to keep a connection with their shared history. This cultural heritage will be the cornerstone of the restauration of the identities in this country presently devastated. The project was presented by Patrick Maxime Michel on May 19 2017, at the conference “Les Archives au secours des temples détruits de Palmyre” organized by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres (AIBL) in Paris (conference proceeding), as well as during the international forum Patrimoine en péril at the Arab World Institute on October 11 2018 as part of the exhibition “Cités millénaires. Voyage virtuel de Palmyre à Mossoul”. The Collart archive is also present within the Patrimoine du Proche-Orient project that belongs to the collection Grands sites archéologiques developed by the French Ministry of Culture. Furthermore an educational program has been developed in order to ensures that refugees and younger generations are not entirely disconnected from their cultural heritage and from their roots and identity.
